Established as a small Chicago recording studio in 1983, Oliver Sudden Productions, helmed by sound engineer Paul Etch, expanded its list of clients throughout the decade. Projects undertaken were very eclectic from voice-overs to film music to hip hop to country music to radio and TV commercials.
In 1986, Oliver Sudden Productions relocated to Montreal, branching out with a record label releasing electronic music by Paul Etch between 1989 and 1992. In 1993, Oliver Sudden Productions ventured out into the world music scene by recording and releasing a series of Chinese traditional music CDs by prominent Chinese Canadian musicians including Anna Guo, Liu Fang, Lei Qiang and Hong Ting. Having achieved success with the Chinese music series, the label had established a niche market and began to expand and release a series of traditional world music from Vietnam, India, Japan and Latin America.
Today, music from Oliver Sudden Productions can be found on every music streaming platform on the internet and also on other record labels such as Putumayo. EMI, Domino and Sony. Their music can also be heard on dozens of film soundtracks, including Happy Tears (2009) directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein and Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) directed by Michael Bay.
